Four Reasons Why New Edition’s “If It Isn’t Love” Is One Of The Best Songs Ever
1. The musical bed, which remains one of Jam & Lewis’ most shimmering. I love the keyboards especially, and the way they make me think of rain-slicked streets.
2. The key change on the bridge! And the rest of the bridge too! “Love her—what?!”
3. The ad-libs on the outro!
4. I thought that the lyric in the final verse had Ralph Tresvant singing about how he “dropped [his] fly” until about two weeks ago, when I realized it was “dropped [his] pride.” Let me also point out that I have been mishearing the song in this fashion since I was 13!
